Today's Word: The Lord speaks of peace to his people. Chapel
No one patches an old cloak with a piece of unshrunken cloth, for its fullness pulls away from the cloak and the tear gets worse. People do not put new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined. Rather, they pour new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.”

Fourteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

“I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”

1 Cor 5:6b-8

Brothers and sisters:

Do you not know that a little yeast leavens all the dough? Clear out the old yeast, so that you may become a fresh batch of dough,  inasmuch as you are unleavened. For our paschal lamb, Christ, has been sacrificed.

Therefore, let us celebrate the feast,  not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness,  but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Brothers and sisters:
No one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit;  there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.

As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.

From 1 Corinthians 12

Coming up next:

Haiti Project Yard Sale: The annual Sacred Heart / St. Dominic Parish Haiti Project yard sale is held on a Saturday each August in front of Deering High School on Stevens Ave. It was a huge success this summer.

Haiti Pizza Fundraiser ~ The Annual Flatbread Pizza Haiti Fundraiser is held on a Tuesday each fall, from 5PM to 9PM. The local eatery provides charitable contributions from the proceeds of meals served on that night.

2nd Annual Silent Auction Appreciation ~ Thank you our Silent Auction Committee, Patricia Chasse, Betty Duggan, Art Borduas, Ray Rier, John La Point and Ursula Slavick for all the hard work that was put into this project. As a result, we received over $5500.00 in donations and more to come! Thanks as well to our soup café team, Sue Dionne-Jones, Pat & Nancy Wallace, Liane Hamann, Erik Johnson, Barbara Briggs and Ann Hendrix. A special thank you to Debra Yoo who produced computer lists and sheets and live auctioneers, Bill Slavick, Art Borduas and Lori Arsenault, and to the many others who put their energy, time and talent into making this a wonderful success! Thanks also to the wonderful support the parish receives from our staff who answer so many of our questions, our secretary, Maggie Jones, and our custodian Rocco DiDonato.

Empty Bowl Supper Appreciation ~ Many thanks to all who attended this annual fund raiser for our Haiti projects in February. We featured another delicious variety of soups and bread. Bowls were donated by local artisans and shops and those who attended chose their favorite bowl to take home as a reminder of the hunger experienced by Haitians, and others living in extreme poverty, whose bowls are too often empty. Over $1800 was raised for our project in Haiti. Thanks especially to the volunteers and members of the Social Justice & Peace Commission who have worked so hard on this project.
