What can I give?
Stewardship: Ways to Give Back to God for ALL He Has Given Us

Weekly Electronic Funds Transfer: There are forms in the back of the church to sign up for electronic funds transfer through VANCO. Or, Download the application here, and drop it in the weekly collection, or mail it to the parish office at 80 Sherman Street, Portland, ME 04101 (requires the free Adobe Reader). For more information about this process, write to loriaam@maine.rr.com.

Fuel Fund: Winter has passed, but the need to keep building this fund has not. Designated gifts to help with winter fuel are always welcome.

Food Pantry: Designated gifts to the Food Pantry will be used by volunteers to buy food and supplies for the needy of our neighborhood. Reports are given each month in the bulletin about how many people are being served in this way.

Have you thought of a bequest? Leaving a legacy to sustain our parish through gifts of endowments and bequests from past parishioners continue to benefit our parish today. They remind us that with some forethought, what we gather during our time on earth can keep on giving beyond our time together. The concern for our church and community by our ancestors in faith lives on in the generosity of their gifts to our parish. The Catholic Foundation of Maine is available to help each one of us develop a long term giving plan that will help support the mission of this parish now and into the future.

For these and other ways of giving, please call the Parish Office for more information, 772-6182 between 8:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., Monday through Friday, or write to the Parish Office for more information.

All contributions to support the mission and ministry of Sacred Heart / St. Dominic Parish can be given in the weekly collection, or mailed directly to:

Giving Options
Weekly offertory: gifts of cash or checks are collected each week to assist with the maintenance and operations of our parish, and our mission. In order for the amount of our gifts to be reported by the parish office, we use an envelope system. To begin receiving envelopes, please contact the parish office.

Planned Gifts: Trusts, annuities, stocks and real estate can be used to fund an endowment or bequest as a way to provide major and long-term gifts to do God's work. Our parish has a long history of forward-thinking parishioners who are still providing for our mission long after they have passed on, that we would be able to continue their work.

For more information about any of these ways of giving, please call the Parish Office.

New Planning Opportunity for Those with IRAs ~ If you are age 70½ or older, new legislation now allows you to make cash gifts totaling up to $100,000 a year from your traditional or Roth IRA to qualified charities – such as your parish or school endowment - without incurring income tax on the withdrawal. This is good news for people who want to make a charitable gift during their lifetime from their retirement assets, but have been discouraged from doing so because of the income tax penalty. The provision is effective for tax years 2006 and 2007 only, so you must act by December 31, 2007 to take full advantage. Contact Patricia Long, executive director, Catholic Foundation of Maine, at 207-321-7835 or plong@portlanddiocese.net for more information.
